The relocation of the Asher House marks a new chapter for the sanctuary, enabling it to expand its reach and provide refuge to an even wider range of animals in need. I have so many stories, yet one of my most impactful situations comes from a recent rescue.

I used to very much think about the future of our organization because I always wanted to go from an RV to a sanctuary. And for the first time in my life, I’m very focused on the now. My plan is to grow this sanctuary to its fullest potential. I’m incredibly fortunate to have an amazing team of employees, and my hope is to elevate their expertise to a point where we can establish multiple Asher House sanctuaries. I’d love for the people who have started with me, go out on their own and run an Asher sanctuary.

” Well, I don’t typically ask that because I know I rescued the dog. I have a lot of older dogs here — dogs I’ve had since the beginning of The Asher House who are getting older. No one in the world will tell you starting an animal sanctuary is an easy path. It’s been very taxing on me spiritually, emotionally and physically.
Get in the habit of doing better for the world in some way. Get in the habit of doing something where you give back or better someone other than yourself. People get a scared sometimes because they think, “oh, I don’t have the money to donate.” Well, there are other avenues to give. He sold his belongings, bought an RV and began a two-year odyssey in which he visited animal shelters with his own pack of nearly a dozen dogs. The 24-month road trip was then followed by another three years of intermittent travel that, all told, took him to 49 mainland U.S. states and large swaths of Canada.
However, Asher House has deep roots in Willowbrook and Salem, Oregon. Established as a non-profit organization dedicated to animal welfare, the sanctuary is based on a serene and expansive 240-acre property near Salem. Each animal has a unique set of needs that we pay for through donations and our merchandise sales. We provide each member of our animal family the medical care needed, in addition to a safe haven and lots of love. But we also provide them with a healthy dose of adventure.
Nerito was rescued from an abusive situation with spinal injuries. Shortly after being rescued, he tested positive for parvovirus. Despite weighing barely two pounds, he fought the illness, and was nurtured back to health. The progress is slow, but promising and he needs a loving home to help him with the healing process. We do keep some of the animals on the property to live out their lives, but we adopt out as many as we can that would do great in a loving home.
